Konin on the verge of a mega-investment. A 3 billion euro data center is getting closer to realization

In Konin, one of the largest digital infrastructure investments in Poland is being prepared. The Data Center Konin project, worth up to 3 billion euros, may soon obtain a building permit and enter the next stage of implementation.

Over 260 MW of power and AI readiness

The planned data center is ultimately expected to reach over 260 MW of IT power, placing it among the largest AI-ready projects in Central and Eastern Europe.

Its potential is determined not only by its scale, but above all by the advancement of preparations:

  • secured connection capacity,
  • complete design documentation,
  • obtained environmental decision,
  • pending building permit.

Thanks to this, the investment could enter the implementation phase as early as 2027.

Energy as a key resource

The development of infrastructure for artificial intelligence is changing the rules of the game in the data center market. Today, the attractiveness of a location is determined primarily by access to energy – its scale, stability, and the possibility of further expansion.

Konin benefits from the region's existing energy infrastructure, and the project assumes the use of:

  • photovoltaic farms,
  • large-scale energy storage,
  • local power sources supporting system stability.

Transformation of the region after coal energy

The investment is part of the transformation process of Eastern Wielkopolska – from energy based on lignite to modern low-emission solutions.

The data center is intended to become one of the pillars of the region's new economy, utilizing existing infrastructure and developing new technological competencies.

Waste heat for the city

The project also assumes the use of waste heat generated by the data center. This energy is to be transferred to the municipal heating network, which can:

  • lower heating costs,
  • increase the city's energy security.

Advantage through investment readiness

In the data center market, it is becoming increasingly clear that not all announced projects will be realized. Key factors today are:

  • access to energy,
  • formal advancement,
  • the ability to start construction quickly.

Against this background, Data Center Konin stands out for its high level of preparation.

Poland on the radar of digital investors

The project could become one of the most important infrastructure ventures in Poland, combining:

  • growing demand for computing power for AI,
  • access to energy,
  • the region's investment potential.

This is another signal that Poland is strengthening its position as an attractive location for investments in modern digital infrastructure.
