Lidl is building a logistics giant near Krakow. Construction has started, opening in 2027

Construction of the largest and most technologically advanced distribution center for the Lidl chain in Poland has begun in Skawina. The new facility on ul. Strażacka is intended to streamline logistics and set standards in the field of sustainable construction.

This is an investment of impressive scale. Approximately 16,000 m3 of concrete will be used for the floor alone – this is the capacity of more than six Olympic swimming pools. In turn, the sandwich panel facade will cover approximately 23,000 sqm, which corresponds to the size of Terminal 1 at Chopin Airport in Warsaw. The warehouse has also been designed with modern technological and eco-friendly solutions in mind.

We are extremely pleased that Atlas Ward has become the general contractor for Lidl's new distribution center in Skawina. Our hallmark is optimal construction that combines economic efficiency, care for the environment, and a full understanding of the client's needs. We are proud that together with Lidl Polska we will realize such an innovative and environmentally friendly facility. We focus on digitalization and automation of processes, offering the investor the highest quality engineering and technological solutions – says Mariusz Górecki, President of the Atlas Ward Group.

The largest Lidl warehouse in Poland

The new distribution center is an investment that strengthens our operational base and increases logistics efficiency. This project is also a reflection of our approach to responsible business, in which we combine growth with real care for the environment. The construction of the center in Skawina is another step in the long-term development strategy of Lidl Polska, which we are consistently implementing by creating new and valuable jobs for local communities and investing in eco-friendly infrastructure – says Marcin Stopa, Member of the Board of Lidl Polska.

The new Lidl warehouse will be eco-friendly

The center will be equipped with a range of ecological solutions, thanks to which it will be possible to reduce CO₂ emissions and sustainably manage natural resources. A photovoltaic installation with a capacity of approximately 1 MW will be mounted on the roof of the facility, and the entire building will be heated without the use of natural gas, through heat recovery from cooling processes and the use of an industrial refrigeration system as a heat source in the winter season. Underfloor heating will also be installed. A coil of pipes with a total length of approximately 80 kilometers will be used for this! The building will also be equipped with chargers for electric cars, both passenger and delivery vehicles, as well as a system for collecting and using greywater, which will be used, among other things, for watering greenery. 2 km of pipes with a diameter of 500 mm will also be laid, which will secure the nearby warehouse area during floods and allow for the rapid pumping of floodwaters outside the flood embankments.

Lidl Polska places great emphasis on biodiversity and ensures that the space created is friendly to local fauna and flora. Extensive flower meadows will be created in the vicinity of the center, and trees will be planted to create a natural isolation zone and a plant passage around retention reservoirs. Nesting boxes for birds will be installed, including those specially adapted for species that feed on mosquitoes, as well as houses for pollinating insects, such as bumblebees. The warehouse will be built near Krakow, and in good weather, you will be able to see Wawel from its roof.

The commissioning of the facility in Skawina is planned for the spring of 2027. The realization of this new project is an expression of Lidl Polska's commitment to building sustainable infrastructure that meets the needs of the modern market and the challenges associated with environmental protection.
