Five months after the signing of the agreement between Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Poland and the Wałbrzyska Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna „INVEST-PARK”, construction of a railway siding and a logistics center for the Mercedes factory in Jawor is underway. The project is financed by funds from WSSE and MBMPL, and its cost is estimated at several dozen million zlotys.
The investment includes the construction of a railway siding in the south-western part of the economic zone, the Jawor/DSAG S3 sub-zone, and a logistics center on the premises of the Lower Silesian Mercedes-Benz factory.
The siding will be connected to the Kędzierzyn Koźle - Kamieniec Ząbkowicki - Legnica railway line. A logistics center will be built on an area of 2.6 ha, which is a modern transshipment platform with technologically advanced infrastructure, intended in particular for handling the transport of lithium-ion batteries from Jawor to Mercedes factories around the world. At the beginning of 2024, most deliveries to the plant and the transport of finished products will shift from road to rail.

Striving for CO2 neutrality has been our goal from the very beginning of the factory's existence in Jawor. The plant is powered by 100% renewable energy. The next step in reducing the carbon footprint is the area of logistics. Thanks to the new railway siding, we will minimize road transport to and from the factory, which will be replaced by rail transport. Together with the Wałbrzyska Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna, we are taking another step towards the sustainable development of our production and distribution – says
Aleksandra Łukasiak, CEO Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Poland. The Mercedes factory in Jawor is a technologically advanced plant producing high-efficiency, four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, as well as batteries for Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrid cars and electric Mercedes EQ models. The factory produces batteries for plug-in hybrids and electric cars of the Mercedes-EQ brand.

The symbolic „groundbreaking” for the new investment, the construction of the siding and transshipment platform, begins the next stage of our plant's expansion. It is also another step towards reducing CO2 emissions, this time in the area of logistics. In just 2 years, we plan to significantly minimize road transport to and from the factory - says
Elke Pusskeiler, Vice President Supply Chain Management and Technical Service, Mercedes-Benz AG.-
This is the largest investment of this type in the history of the Wałbrzyska Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna „INVEST-PARK” and one of the most strategic undertakings related to railway infrastructure in this part of Poland - emphasizes
Piotr Wojtyczka, President of the Management Board of WSSE.The Mercedes-Benz plant in Jawor is an important part of the Mercedes-Benz Powertrain production network. From the beginning, the factory was designed as a CO2-neutral plant and thus plays a pioneering role within the sustainable development goals of Mercedes-Benz AG: it is supplied with electricity by a nearby wind farm. The plant in Jawor, with a production and logistics area of approximately 250,000 m², focuses on modern equipment and innovative Industry 4.0 technologies and is an important employer in the region.
