MLP Group is starting the implementation of a strategic project to build photovoltaic farms on the roofs of 10 logistics parks in Poland. The implementation of the project has been entrusted to Quanta Energy. Photovoltaic panels will cover approximately 120,000 sqm of surface area, and their total capacity will amount to 5.93 MWp. This will be the largest "on site" project in Poland, intended to use the generated electricity mainly for own needs. In order to increase safety, a special, lightweight installation structure will be used for construction. According to the assumptions, the investment will be ready in the first quarter of 2023.
"Environmental protection is fully in line with our operating strategy as a Green Industrial Developer. All our new facilities are standardly subjected to the BREEAM and DGNB certification process in terms of their environmental friendliness and functionality. In cooperation with Quanta Energy, we are now starting a comprehensive and large-scale program for the development of photovoltaic farms on the roofs of our facilities. The goal of all these actions is to achieve zero CO2 emissions within a few years. Our tenants also expect us to use ecological solutions. For clients in the warehouse industry, reducing the carbon footprint is, on the one hand, the fulfillment of obligations regarding increasingly widely declared climate protection, and on the other hand, it is also financial savings obtained as part of the operating costs of commercial space" – said Radosław T. Krochta, President of MLP Group S.A.
Rising energy prices mean that apart from environmental protection resulting from the use of green energy, the investment will contribute to cost reduction. RES installations built on the roofs of MLP Group warehouses with a total capacity of 6.3 MWp will produce approximately 6 GWh of electricity annually.
"Rates of return reach as much as 20 percent, taking into account active energy prices for 2022, and corporate investments pay off in 5-7 years. These are completely different profitability levels from those we saw 3 years ago. Active energy prices for 2022 across Europe, including Poland, have increased by 50-100% depending on the time of purchase. This is the result of several factors, including rising prices of CO2 emission allowances, which in recent days have exceeded the level of 82 euros per ton, an unprecedented increase in energy demand in 2021, rising gas prices, and an increase in the cost of so-called "colors". At the same time, the capacity fee introduced in January 2021 will increase in 2022 from 76.2 to 102.6 PLN / MWh of energy, we also expect a slight increase in distribution fees. Photovoltaic power plants are currently the most effective solution to the problem of rising energy costs" – emphasized Piotr Grzybczak, President of Quanta Energy S.A.
