7R is implementing a decarbonization plan. It assumes a 42 percent reduction in the company's carbon footprint by 2030 and the systematic decarbonization of individual warehouse projects. At the same time, 7R is joining the SBTi and publishing its latest ESG report.
7R is the first warehouse developer in Poland whose decarbonization targets have been verified by the SBTi (Science-Based Targets Initiative). The SBTi is a joint project of the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the WWF. The SBTi helps companies clearly define greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. By joining the SBTi, 7R is taking another step on the path to sustainable development and is engaging in global efforts to combat climate change.
"Our commitment to the SBTi is another expression of our responsibility for the environment and another action towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By defining and verifying science-based targets, we strive to reduce our negative impact on the environment and move towards a more sustainable future for Poland and the world."- Piotr Miodek, Head of Construction & Engineering and Head of Sustainability at 7R
The decision to have the targets verified by the SBTi is part of the company's adopted decarbonization strategy and the creation of innovative, energy-efficient, and ecologically sustainable warehouse solutions.
"7R's decision to join the SBTi was made at a time when sustainable development and climate action are of the utmost importance. 7R confirms its position as one of the leaders in responsible business in the real estate sector. In order to reduce scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to the 2022 base year, we have jointly developed a detailed decarbonization plan, which is currently being implemented." - Jerzy Wójcik, CEO at JWA, a consulting firm supporting 7R in the application and implementation process of these goals.
The decarbonization plan includes reducing energy consumption in offices rented by 7R, lowering fuel consumption in the vehicle fleet, and purchasing energy from renewable sources through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Furthermore, the company will measure and reduce scope 3 emissions associated with its development projects. The first project built in accordance with the adopted decarbonization strategy is 7R Park Wrocław West II. The solutions applied in this case are intended to reduce operational CO2 emissions by over 50 percent, and subsequent projects aiming for total carbon neutrality are already in preparation.
7R has also published its latest ESG report, setting out additional goals for the coming years in the area of sustainable development.
"Our products, i.e., low-emission warehouses and logistics facilities, are subject not only to the decarbonization plan but also to specific actions and ambitious goals in the environmental, social, and corporate (E, S, and G) areas. Both the ESG Report and our commitment to the SBTi, as well as the establishment of the Green Team, summarize two years of our efforts aimed at creating a clear path for decarbonization and increasing transparency in business. We hope that they will become a source of motivation for other market participants and encourage them to follow our example." - Piotr Miodek, Head of Construction & Engineering and Head of Sustainability at 7R
