Dan Cake Polonia has launched its own logistics center

The 32-meter-high warehouse accommodates as many as 6,400 pallets and is equipped with multi-level racks serviced by three specialized stacker cranes, while the loading hall features gravity roller conveyors used for storing pallets awaiting assigned loading at the ramp. Pallets are delivered to the warehouse automatically, straight from the production part of the plant, specifically from its packaging zone, through the use of automatic roller conveyors and a carton palletizing robot. Thanks to such solutions, work in the warehouse is limited to efficient loading of trucks and shortening many processes, which translates into a significant reduction in costs. Additionally, a Warehouse Management System (WMS) is responsible for storing and retrieving pallets as well as analyzing stock levels, which further streamlines all processes.

"Previously, we had to lease as many as three external warehouses. This was a solution that was not only more expensive but also generated many challenges, considering all stages of the supply chain. It became natural for us to become independent from external entities and build our own warehouse space, which would not only meet our current and future needs but would also be modern and fully automated. For Dan Cake, this is certainly a big step forward. Automated processes are the future and our company is consciously investing in them." – says Gabriel Radwan, Head of Logistics at Dan Cake Polonia.

This stage of expansion and automation of the Dan Cake production plant is another milestone in the company's development. The company operates within the Krakow Technology Park and all investments undertaken by it so far result from zone permits and the latest permit from the Polish Investment Zone, under which another production line for the production of Milk Rolls and Burger Buns was previously launched. As part of the currently completed stage of the production plant expansion, Dan Cake also took care of the necessary infrastructure, such as access roads and parking lots. Thus, after the expansion, the area of the plant increased to over 20,000 m².

"We strongly believe that process automation is a key aspect for production plants that allows maintaining production profitability. That is why our company has been investing in such solutions for years. We have been continuously carrying out the process of expanding and modernizing the Dan Cake production plant since 2013, and the company has already spent over 313 million PLN for these purposes." – says Małgorzata Chudzik, Member of the Board at Dan Cake Polonia.

A high-bay warehouse is a modern and very economical solution, which leads to more effective use of space, greater efficiency of operations related to storing, retrieving, and putting away loads, and optimization of warehouse processes. Thanks to better possibilities of filling the facility's volume, such a warehouse has a larger usable area than is the case with its traditional version. Automated high-bay warehouses also provide employees with a significantly higher level of work safety, improvement of customer service, and, thanks to automation, reduce the number of potential errors. This type of warehouse is also more energy-efficient and soundproof than traditional ones.

"Being a modern, responsible company that responds to customer needs is a goal that we have been trying to achieve for years, especially since the market for packaged bread and cakes is constantly growing. However, we always base our actions on the principles of sustainable development, keeping in mind not only care for the natural environment but also for the local community and our long-term business partners." – adds Małgorzata Chudzik.
