Go Earthwise - a new standard for warehouses at Panattoni

Panattoni is introducing a new standard for the facades of its parks. Aluminum-glass facades, a new color scheme, and increased green zones are becoming dominant. This innovative metamorphosis is part of the implemented sustainable development concept. It consists of CO2 emission reduction, wellbeing, responsible environmental management, and the BREEAM certification of newly constructed facilities at the VERY GOOD level.

Panattoni is implementing a sustainable development concept and creating a new standard for warehouses in Europe, minimizing the impact of investments on the natural environment. The most visible change is the new look of the hall facades introduced by the developer. The building structures are dominated by aluminum-glass facades in office and social areas with enlarged green buffer zones at the entrances. „Behind such a spectacular metamorphosis of the facade's appearance are modern and ecological solutions introduced to the entire project. The facilities are characterized by increased wall and roof insulation as well as airtightness, thanks to which Panattoni buildings reduce exhaust and carbon dioxide emissions, allowing for savings of up to 20 percent of the thermal energy needed to heat the facility. Additionally, all newly emerging investments are equipped with numerous systems, e.g., automatic electricity management, limiting water consumption, not to mention the long-used LED lighting as a standard and mandatory BREEAM certification, now at the Very Good level”. - comments Robert Dobrzycki, CEO Panattoni

So far, Panattoni has completed five parks as part of the new concept – Panattoni Park Żory, Panattoni Park Bydgoszcz II, Panattoni Park Toruń, A2 Warsaw Park and City Logistics Łodź II. Another seven, including those in Częstochowa, the Tricity, Lublin, Warsaw or Legnica, are nearing completion. More are in the pipeline, as are those applying for BREEAM certificates at the Very Good level. As a reminder - since the beginning of 2020, all newly built warehouses within Panattoni parks are certified using the BREEAM New Construction International method at the VERY GOOD level. Today, Panattoni already has 1.2 million sq m in the certification process and 30 investments completed in accordance with BREEAM and LEED, thus certifying the most facilities in the warehouse industry.

Increased access to daylight thanks to glass facades with better permeability and green entrance annexes are not everything. Panattoni has also taken care of the well-being of people working in the building – by moving parking spaces away from the buildings, green squares equipped with ecological street furniture have been created. The choice of vegetation for each buffer zone - apart from visual aspects - aims to create a better microclimate for people staying in the vicinity, such as lowering the ambient temperature in summer. Bicycle shelters in the parks have also undergone a metamorphosis, and electric car charging stations will be standard. Depending on the availability of the area and the interest of tenants, relaxation zones equipped with outdoor gyms will be created.

The next stage of the metamorphosis of Panattoni investments being introduced is combining the idea of sustainable development with land ethics, which in the case of the developer leads to the responsible use of existing resources. To this end, Panattoni leaves biologically active areas in the parks, increases replacement plantings using non-invasive plant species as well as native trees and shrubs that are attractive to birds and insects. Additionally, the developer is giving up green areas that require frequent mowing. In place of short, evenly trimmed lawns, eco-friendly flowering meadows are appearing, which retain moisture, prevent soil erosion, lower air temperature, are one of the largest producers of oxygen and absorbers of carbon dioxide, and additionally ensure biodiversity. This will also be preserved thanks to numerous bird and invertebrate houses, as well as beehives.
