Panattoni builds for DHL Supply Chain

In Żerniki near Poznań Panattoni will deliver a 105,000 sqm BTS facility for DHL Supply Chain. The company will conduct logistics operations for, among others, Zalando, carried out on many European markets – including the Polish and German ones. The investment will undergo BREEAM certification at the „Excellent” level. The facility will be completed in August and will provide jobs for 800 people.

On May 25, 2021, Zalando, DHL Supply Chain and Panattoni celebrated the ceremonial topping-out in connection with the start of an investment consisting of handling logistics operations for Zalando to support distribution on many European markets, including Poland and Germany. As part of the project, Panattoni will prepare, among other things, a reinforced floor, a VAS (Value Added Service) zone with an appropriate level of daylight and constant temperature, a 3-story office with a kitchen, separate entrances for trucks and passenger cars, and special bays for vans and buses.

„The investment in Żerniki brings together two huge brands that have decided to take another important step in their development here, while simultaneously showing the trust of logistics and e-commerce in Panattoni. I am glad that our understanding of the needs of a changing and developing market has been noticed” - says Katarzyna Kujawiak, Development Director at Panattoni.

„We are very pleased that we can continue our cooperation with Zalando on the Polish market. With this new investment, over 800 new jobs will be created, thanks to which we will be able to provide Zalando customers with the highest quality services. We are also very proud that thanks to this investment we will be able to implement the assumptions of the GO GREEN strategy, under which we want to use the latest technological achievements to achieve carbon neutrality of our buildings around the world” – said Monika Duda, Managing Director of DHL Supply Chain in Poland.

The factors that determined the choice of Poznań as the location for the new investment in Poland are primarily its good location and infrastructure, including a direct connection to the A2 motorway and the possibility of further rapid development.

Sustainable development is an important element of the strategy of DHL Supply Chain, Panattoni and Zalando. DHL, as a leading global logistics company, wants to operate in a sustainable manner and has therefore set a goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050. Last year, Zalando was the first platform of this type to implement an extended version of the SAC Higg Brand & Retail Module (Higg BRM), under which a mandatory assessment of brands sold through its website is conducted in terms of compliance with sustainable development principles. The center in Żerniki fits perfectly into the value system of both companies, as it will be the latest project implemented by the Panattoni company to obtain the BREEAM environmental certificate at a high „Excellent” level. The developer will implement solutions important both for the environment and for the well-being of the building's users. The roof will be strong enough to place photovoltaic panels and flower meadows with insect houses on it, trees and shrubs will be planted at the entrance, and the developer will also build so-called „green walls”. Additionally, users of the facility will have at their disposal bicycle shelters, charging stations for electric car batteries and relaxation zones in the vicinity of tall plants, as well as a small gym and outdoor picnic tables. On the second floor of the office building, the developer will build green terraces with benches, phone charging points, light portable chairs and tables, and plants in pots.
