LemonTree has completed the first stage of the WestSide Szczecin NXT complex. Ultimately, the investment will offer nearly 40,000 sq m of warehouse and service space, and one of the elements of its surrounding development is a microforest created from native plant species.
The first stage of WestSide Szczecin NXT is ready
The first part of the investment has been completed and put into use. The developer's materials did not specify the exact area of the completed stage.
Goldbeck is responsible for the implementation of the complex. WestSide Szczecin NXT is LemonTree's third project in Szczecin and another element of the WestSide Szczecin complex developed by the company.
The project includes warehouse and logistics space along with office and social facilities.
Ultimately nearly 40,000 sq m
The entire WestSide Szczecin NXT is to offer nearly 40,000 sq m of space. The spaces are designed so that they can be adapted to the activities and operational processes of individual tenants.
The complex is being built in the south-western part of Szczecin. The location provides access to the A6 motorway, the city centre, and the ports in Szczecin and Świnoujście.
A microforest next to the warehouse complex
The commissioning of the first stage was accompanied by the creation of a microforest using the Miyawaki method. The plantings were created directly next to the new building in cooperation with Forest Maker.
The Miyawaki method involves dense planting of native species on a relatively small area. The vegetation is selected and arranged so that over time it forms a multi-layered ecosystem resembling a natural forest.
The plantings include not only trees, but also shrubs and plants forming lower layers of greenery.
Greenery is to support local biodiversity
Over time, the microforest is to create a habitat for insects, birds, and other organisms. This type of dense planting can also support water retention and affect the microclimate of the immediate surroundings.
Representatives of LemonTree, the general contractor Goldbeck, and tenants of the neighbouring WestSide Szczecin facilities participated in the planting.
BREEAM Excellent in the project assumptions
WestSide Szczecin NXT is being implemented in accordance with the requirements of BREEAM certification at the Excellent level.
The project also includes solutions related to energy efficiency and reducing operating costs. At the current stage, however, no information has been provided about obtaining the final BREEAM certificate for the investment.
